IN-DE-KNOOP
Tying knots, listening to music.
Century-old knots in a picture frame, neatly organized and ready to teach you exactly how they’re meant to be tied. I’ve always been fascinated by these nautical shadow boxes. Each knot is meticulously labeled with its name, and some even come with their own story to help you remember them. Take the bowline, for example—it has a story about a fish. A fish that leaps out of a lake, circles a tree, and dives back into the water. When the fish, lake, and tree are all made of rope, you’ve got yourself a bowline.
At 11, I worked at my uncle's sailing school, tying rope with headphones on, listening to Eminem on my 256MB USB-stick MP3 player. I learned different knots from those display frames, always noticing one knot was missing—a modern, self-tying, autonomous knot, never seen before in the world of sailing.
This shadow box, showcasing the "In-De-Knoop" (Tangled-Up Knot), is my way of filling that gap.
